Marcel Marceau & Mime

Event Details

The Lanpher Library in Hyde Park presents The Silent Language of the Soul, A Tribute to Marcel Marceau. Rob Mermin, founder of Circus Smirkus, was a student of the famous French mimes, Marcel Marceau and his teacher Etienne Decroux. He will present his memories of training with the masters, demonstrate techniques of the art of pantomime, relate personal anecdotes, and show rare film clips of Marceau and Decroux performing and teaching. Decroux is known as the Father of Mime, and Marceau remains an icon of 20th century theater. For those who remember seeing Marceau, who passed away in 2007, it will be a treat to rediscover the essence of the art form he made popular around the world, and which he called “the Silent Language of the Soul”.

Earlier in the day, at 1:00, Rob will do a mime workshop for children ages 8ish – 12 ish. Children who enjoyed reading “Monsieur Marceau”, by Vermont Author Leda Schubart, might like to learn more about the techniques taught by the famous mime himself. Please register at the library, or by calling 888-4628 as space might be limited.
