Table set for Downton Abbey inspired dinner etiquette talk

The dinner on Saturday night comes with an etiquette talk which takes you from the dressing gong to after-dinner chocolates while everyone takes a turn at being both guest and footman and the intricacies of proper Edwardian (and modern) dinner etiquette are explored and explained. There will be a proper full English afternoon tea at which you may come in the “character” of any character, though dressing the part is entirely optional. Enjoy warm scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, finger sandwiches, and tea cakes while you hear about the history of the tea party and how to be the perfect guest or the perfect hostess. Breakfast will be just what you would expect with a sideboard buffet and strawberry jam, or lemon curd for your toast which will arrive in a proper silver toast rack. Optional activities include fly fishing, horseback riding (either a trail ride or lesson), crewel embroidery lessons, and chocolate-covered truffle making with someone much less grumpy than Mrs. Patmore in the kitchen. There will also be games and puzzles to enjoy throughout the weekend. Weekend rates start at $295 per person plus tax double, $335 single, and include lodging, meals and most activities.

It is possible for non-staying guests to join us for dinner and the etiquette talk on either Friday or Saturday evening as space permits. $47.50 per person plus tax. We gather in the library at 6:30.

Afternoon tea and the etiquette tea talk on either Saturday at 2:00 or Sunday at 3:00 is also open for reservations as space permits. $25.00 per person plus tax.

Advance reservations are essential.
